Health Screenings for Old Men

When men step into old age, a number of physical problems arise. Therefore, they should go for regular health screenings as this helps to diagnose any malfunction in the body.   2.Blood Pressure Screening

If the bottom number (diastolic number) is between 80 and 89 mm Hg or higher and the top number (systolic number) is between 120 and 139, you should go for blood pressure screening at least once a year. This screening is also necessary if you have heart disease, kidney problems, diabetes or some other conditions.

3.Cholesterol Screening and Heart Disease Prevention

If the levels of your cholesterol remain under control, it is beneficial for your health. There can be various problems if there is a vast increase in the cholesterol level. You should go to the medical laboratory in Uttarpara for cholesterol screening.

  4.Lung Cancer Screening

It is recommended that if you have a history of smoking 30 packets of cigarette per year or currently smoke, you should undergo lung cancer screening.

You should go for colorectal cancer screening if your doctor advises you to do so. Some of the tests done for colorectal cancer screening are a colonoscopy, CT colonography, flexible sigmoidoscopy, double contrast barium enema, fecal occult blood test, stool DNA test and fecal immunochemical test.

  6.Diabetes Screening

Screening for diabetes is advisable if you are aged 65 or older. However, prior to the screening test, you should consult your doctor.

  7.Osteoporosis Screening

You should consult your doctor about screening if you have risk factors for osteoporosis. Smoking, heavy alcohol use, low body weight, a fracture after age 50 or a family history of osteoporosis fall under the risk factors of osteoporosis. You should also consider going for bone mineral density screening at a pathology lab in Uttarpara.

  8.Prostate Cancer Screening

Get the necessary advice from your doctor about prostate cancer screening. It can be known whether you have prostate cancer by measuring prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in your blood.

  9.Thyroid-stimulating Hormone Screening

A gland in your neck that regulates your body’s metabolic rate is called thyroid. This gland sometimes does not produce enough hormones. There may be sluggishness, weight gain or achiness due to this. If you go for a simple blood test that can check the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), you can know whether your thyroid gland is working properly.
